About Lex - Founder + Teacher of YDG

“A daily practice of Yoga is not an attempt to transport ourselves into some altered state where we are a better, happier version of ourselves. Quite the opposite! Yoga is about returning us to our most unaltered state - who we really are - and enjoying the joy and fulfillment that comes with falling into the groove of being ourselves.”

‘Sup OMies!

H! I’m Lex - yoga teacher, philosophy geek, mama, wifey and friend. <3

I've been practicing and teaching yoga for the past 15 years. There was a time in the beginning of my yoga journey - about 5 years in - when I told myself that I needed to be something “more than” or “better than” JUST a yoga teacher. Can you relate to this voice? For a few years I strived to “re-create” myself in a plethora of ways that I told myself were more important than teaching yoga and I always ended up right back where I started…on the yoga mat.

Around the 10 year mark I really settled into myself as an individual and solidified that there wasn’t anything better for me to be doing with my time and energy and in fact, that frantic search for “better” was affecting all the areas of my life (not just professionally). This drive for “more, better or different” – which in Yoga were refer to as a “rajasic tendency” – was responsible for pressuring me to become someone I’m not and do something other than my heart’s calling.

When I accepted that teaching yoga - in all its simplicity and complexity - was my “dharma” or purpose, I recommitted myself to the path of Yoga and opened my own studio.

It was this space that allowed me to show up and teach in my unique way - weaving together a very physical class with self-reflection/meditation all supported by philosophical and contemplative teachings.

It was this “willingness” to step out on my own, without the structure or framework or mold of an already established and successful yoga studio, that brought my teaching to a new level, challenging me to grow in all ways humans evolve and refine themselves.

After a year and a half, my studio had never been so busy - classes sold out with waitlists - when my husband and I were blessed with a baby boy. Hahah, great timing! (wink) Also around this time, it became clear that as a family we must relocate for my husband’s business.

At 7.5 months pregnant, I left my yoga community I had been apart of for almost 15 years. I closed the doors to my yoga studio and we moved to Newport Beach, CA.

Why I share this with you is to explain what inspired me to create Your Daily Groove. Before I had my son, I’ll be honest, I was never an “online” yoga person. In fact, even during Covid, when the whole world was working out online, I wasn’t an online exercise of any type, type of person. Just wasn’t my thing.

It wasn’t until I had my son, when I realized the importance of movin’ + groovin’ and centering myself in the short 39 minute window I had when he would nap in the morning.

Before I had my son, I had all the time and freedom to explore movement, mediation and philosophy on a daily basis. But with a three-month-old, I quickly realized I had to choose. I didn’t look at this bitterly as if my freedom I once had was being robbed from me (I see how the mind could go in that direction), instead I saw this as an invitation to refine my skills at understanding exactly what I needed that DAY to get into my groove.

While before my son was born, I had hours to spend on my mat and meditation cushion, I suddenly found myself with a small window of time to plug in. And yet, even with this small window, I found it totally possible, and that’s why I created Your Daily Groove.

All the videos on the YDG platform are 40 minutes or less and focus on aspects beyond just the physicality of the practice. There are different types of classes on the app because I know firsthand that sometimes it wasn’t movement I needed that day but rather a centering practice through stillness and mantra repetition. And then there are those days I need a serious attitude adjustment and diving into the philosophical teachings of the practice offers me that fresh perspective I need to see things in a new light.

Your Daily Groove is more than an online yoga studio – it is a space created to support you in showing up each damn day of your life full of vitality, open hearted, with a clear mind. YDG is here to help you side-step the daily grind and all its stress and unfulfillment, and to help you fall into the groove of being yourself where you feel good physically, mentally and emotionally. Because friend, if there was really one goal of Yoga, it would be to love the life you live TODAY.

May Your Daily Groove help you reach this goal. Namaste!

“My goal as a teacher is that each class is a worthy investment of your resources - energy, time and money. May you gain exactly what you need that day and leave behind what no longer serves you so that you can live fully and joyfully into all the moments of your life.” — Lex Koettig
